Atlantic Hurricane Season Sets Record

"Atlantic Hurricane Season Sets Record"
Claims (12/08)

NOAA's National Hurricane Center says 16 named storms formed during the 2008 hurricane season, and five of the eight hurricanes were at least a Category 3. According to Dr. Gerry Bell of NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, "This year's hurricane season continues the current active hurricane era and is the tenth season to produce above-normal activity in the past 14 years." A record six consecutive cyclones hit the U.S. mainland, and each month from July through September, a Category 3 or higher storm formed in the Atlantic.
