"Significant Losses Expected After Floods Soak Nashville"
Business Insurance (05/09/10) Casale, Jeff

The heavy rains blanketing the Midwest left many in Tennessee with significant damage to homes and businesses. Flash flooding hit not only Nashville, but also parts of Kentucky and Mississippi, though damage to Nashville could total $1 billion. About 30 people died as a result of the storms. The Insurance Services Office Inc.'s Property Claim Services unit expects damages to exceed $25 million, marking it a catastrophe, but it is unclear what the exact amount in damages will be. The Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center is expected to remain closed for six months, and flooding has impacted the Grand Ole Opry House and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Nashville and Davidson County, Tenn., had 4,100 NFIP policies in effect as of March.
