Announcing a 1-Day HAZWOPER Supervisor CourseNo doubt you and your key employees have already taken RIA's 40-hour HAZWOPER course. And, many of you have taken the 8-hour refresher that's required. The new 1-day HAZWOPER Supervisor Course is one that is required by the government, and it is something that the insurance companies are looking for. We've created this supervisor course to address concerns insurance companies have about ongoing training for the supervisors that make on-site decisions when hazardous materials are discovered as part of a job. It's not uncommon to trip across mold, spilled oil, bloodborne pathogens, PCB dielectric fluids, mercury, chemical and paint storage, asbestos and lead paint; and they often appear without notice in strange places and at strange hours. The on-site supervisor must be able to identify the risk and take steps to keep his people and the environment safe. You as a business owner need to be able to document you've taken all reasonable steps to make sure your supervisors are keenly aware of the hazards and have a plan of action when those hazards present themselves. This is the first step in limiting legal liability and one that insurance companies expect. You'll learn about health and safety plans, medical surveillance, respiratory protection programs, project documentation, employee monitoring, waste disposal and manifesting and spill containment programs. Discussion focuses on legal liabilities and how to work with insurance to limit all too real risk exposures. The HAZWOPER Supervisor course is taught at Tradewinds, an EPA-approved environmental training facility. Training oversight is handled by an EPA-approved training manager. To our knowledge Tradewinds is the only place in the US where a series of HAZWOPER courses are taught in an approved EPA facility with an EPA approved training manager. This is one big reason why RIA chose Tradewinds to teach these courses and also why we made these courses elements of the RIA insurance procurement program.
