ABOUT THE CONVENTION

Schedule
Solutions, Solutions, Solutions! We've improved upon our past success and Solutions — the Education Summit® will be more comprehensive in many respects in 2005. What's new and better? Analysis of critical issues impacting the bottom lines of cleaning and restoration companies; outside-of-the-box speakers from leading corporations, law firms, and one of the nation's finest business schools; and a revised format geared to increasing the return on investment for both participants and exhibitors.

This year, ASCR celebrates 60 years of industry excellence with a host of new events and presentations. As the oldest trade show of its kind in the industry, the Annual ASCR Convention and Exhibition has developed a reputation for providing cutting-edge information from professionals who have decades of experience in these disciplines. Attendees know that the information presented is based on practical knowledge that has been repeatedly tested by members worldwide.

Critical Issues
The discussion of profit and overhead — clearly the number one issue impacting the bottom lines of restoration companies - began in September in Philadelphia. Now the talk is being translated into action, and owners and managers of leading restoration companies across the country will reconvene in Palm Springs to review progress and decide on the next steps. It will be a critical discussion that calls for widespread participation from the restoration industry.

There could not be a more pressing issue than "hurricane havoc" in Florida and how the industry is dealing with the devastation. What's going right? What's going wrong? Is there a better way to marshal resources to meet a critical labor shortage? How can restoration companies and their suppliers work most efficiently and effectively to confront such massive devastation? This will be an opportunity for industry leaders to set the stage for dealing with large-scale disasters over the next decade.

It's not the big that eat the small, but the fast that eat the slow. Cleaning and restoration companies with the brightest futures could be those that diversify into new businesses faster than the competition. Leading experts on business diversification and marketing will share their expertise in Palm Springs. If you want to know how best to beat the competition into new, revenue generating segments in your market, this is your opportunity.

Innovative Speakers from Outside the Industry
The cleaning and restoration industry is expanding its horizons and learning from the experience of business leaders in other industries and business schools. Solutions — the Education Summit® will feature widely recognized speakers like strategic accounting expert Bill Fink, senior vice president of Bank of America and a professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania; lawyer Michael Duffy, renowned for his involvement in the Melinda Ballard mold remediation case in Texas; and marketing expert Jeff Tweedy of Syngenta.

Best of the Best in Cleaning and Restoration
Do you want to stay ahead of the competition? Then you need to be in Palm Springs to learn from industry leaders with practical, hands-on experience dealing with the toughest day-to-day issues facing cleaning and restoration firms. A sample of the outstanding cleaning and restoration speakers on tap includes: Geoff Clark on recent trends in microbial remediation; Martin Gurian of DesignTex, Inc. on high tech upholstery fabrics and green fabrics and furnishings; Dale Sailer from DKI on the restoration landscape panel and ASCR Technical Director Martin King who will moderate a panel on diversification.

New Look for Exhibitors
A record number of exhibitors participated in last year's ASCR convention. That record will be shattered this year, as even more companies choose to market to the leading owners and managers of cleaning and restoration companies at the ASCR convention! There will be a host of new products and technologies from our long-time exhibitors, as well as the newcomers.

To show our appreciation for the support of our exhibitors, we've invited Bill Fink of Bank of America and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania to present a special "exhibitors-only" session on strategic accounting. Fink combines a common sense approach with a wealth of experience working with businesses large and small, including cleaning and restoration firms.

Expanding the ASCR/Ronald McDonald House Partnership
A charity golf tournament benefiting Ronald McDonald House Charities will be held on Tuesday, March 15 at the Tahquitz Creek Country Club. What could be better than helping deserving families with critically-ill children, at the same time enjoying a great round of golf at one of the area's finest courses with spectacular views of the San Jacinto Mountains.

Something for Spouses
Throughout the convention, there will be a special networking room for spouses, providing an informal opportunity to make new acquaintances or renew old friendships.

Celebrating 60 Years of Success
You'll notice that the annual Awards Brunch and Business Meeting has been moved to Thursday morning. Industry leaders will be recognized for their contributions, the new officers and board of directors will be introduced and we'll take a look at where ASCR will be going during the next 60 years.

And, since this is ASCR's 60th Anniversary, no convention would be complete without a first-class birthday celebration. Expect a host of surprises, a lot of laughs and maybe even some tears as we look back on 60 years of excellence in cleaning and restoration.

Who Should Attend?
Owners and managers of cleaning and restoration companies will find great value in Solutions 2005 — the Education Summit. Their goal is to positively affect the bottom lines of their businesses, build competitive advantage in their markets, learn from leading experts, and help influence issues impacting their operations. Technicians and other staff members will also be able to raise their level of professionalism by attending the many, leading-edge seminars featured in Palm Springs.
