Moving on After the Circus

Restoration firms that have completed the initial wave of catastrophe work may feel relief that routine is returning to their businesses. Owners should take this time to have several discussions to answer questions about their CAT work and the return to normal. The first discussion should be a debriefing, where they address the company's plan for re-engaging all of the company's resources and moving forward, and give members of the CAT team an opportunity to discuss their work and others a chance to explain how they handled efforts at home. The second discussion should update the entire team on the current status of all storm work receivables, making sure whoever needs the data gets it ASAP and that data is entered in the company's job management software. The third discussion should involve following up on the current status of the company's local business development efforts, and the final discussion should involve a comparison of their pre-storm goals with the post-storm goals that were completed, and what to do about the differences.
