The RIA Seeks Candidates for New Director of Government Affairs Position

The Restoration Industry Association (RIA) is expanding its advocacy leadership team and is now accepting applications for a Director of Government Affairs—a high-impact, strategic position at the forefront of shaping the future of the restoration industry.

As the voice of more than 1,800 restoration companies representing thousands of professionals across the U.S. and internationally, the RIA is deeply committed to advancing fair legislation, strengthening industry influence, and championing the needs of restorers. This contracted leadership role offers a unique opportunity to drive meaningful policy change, build critical relationships at the state and federal levels, and directly influence legislation affecting restoration businesses.

About the Role

The Director of Government Affairs will lead RIA’s legislative and regulatory advocacy—designing, managing, and executing a comprehensive government relations strategy at the federal and state levels. As RIA’s primary representative to policymakers, regulatory agencies, and coalition partners, the Director will shape the association’s public policy agenda and support the industry’s growing advocacy momentum.

In this newly established role, the Director will collaborate closely with RIA’s Legislative Task Force, the Advocacy & Government Affairs (AGA) Committee, the Board of Directors, and members nationwide to advance legislative priorities and empower restorers with a strong, unified voice. This is a unique opportunity to make a measurable impact on behalf of thousands of restoration professionals and help shape the regulatory landscape that defines the industry’s future.

Key Responsibilities

The Director of Government Affairs will:

  • Shape and execute RIA’s government relations strategy
  • Represent the restoration industry before legislators and regulators
  • Build and strengthen relationships with policymakers and coalition partners
  • Guide the work of RIA’s Legislative Task Force, AGA Committees, and grassroots advocacy
  • Monitor legislative developments and develop timely policy alerts, testimony, and commentary
  • Advance initiatives that support and protect the interests of restoration professionals

This role requires regular travel (35–50%) to Washington, D.C., state capitals, industry events, and advocacy meetings. The position is a contracted role with salary commensurate with experience. Travel expenses are reimbursed per RIA policy.

Who Should Apply

  • 5+ years of relevant experience (restoration and/or trade association experience preferred)
  • Proven success building relationships with legislators, regulators, and coalition partners
  • Deep understanding of federal and state legislative processes

  • Experience managing multi-jurisdictional lobbying activities and compliance
  • A proactive, collaborative, and advocacy-driven mindset
