An important update from the Insurance Information Institute (Triple-I) and Colorado State University (CSU) highlights increased storm activity forecasted for the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, with a particular spike expected in the next two weeks.

As professionals on the frontlines of disaster response, many of you are already preparing for CAT season, overseeing contractor operations, and managing critical communications. We’re sharing this alert to help you stay ahead of what could be a very active period and to highlight how RIA is supporting our members during times like this.

What This Means for RIA Members

1. Prepare for CAT Deployment:
Restoration contractors in coastal and adjacent regions should finalize deployment plans now, ensuring crews, equipment, and supply chains are ready.

2. Use This as a Strategic Touchpoint:
The weeks ahead are an ideal time to reconnect with adjusters, property managers, and past clients. The RIA also recommends reviewing your emergency protocols, safety documentation, and project intake processes.

  • 16 named storms
     
  • 8 hurricanes
     
  • 3 major hurricanes (Cat 3–5)
     
  • 115% of average hurricane activity (based on the 1991–2020 baseline)
     
  • 48% chance of a major hurricane making U.S. landfall
     
  • Significant ocean warming and low-pressure conditions are expected to drive increased hurricane formation through mid-August and beyond.
