March 2025 Advocacy Update: Protecting Emergency Restoration Services

The Restoration Industry Association (RIA) has taken significant steps forward in advocating for restoration contractors this month.

Across several states, we are actively lobbying for key amendments to ensure emergency restoration services are exempted from right-to-cancel contract laws—a critical protection that allows restorers to respond rapidly during emergencies without unnecessary legal delays.

Current Bills We’re Engaged On:

  • New Jersey A551 – Right to Cancel: Advocating for an emergency services exemption to protect timely mitigation work.

  • Connecticut HB 06967 – Right to Cancel: Pushing for clear carve-outs for emergency restoration in contract cancellation laws.

  • Georgia SB 201 – Right to Cancel: Supporting amendments to preserve contractors' ability to perform emergency work without restrictive cancellation delays.

  • New Jersey A1457 & Senate Companion S4088 – Contractor Licensing: Engaging to ensure any licensing frameworks account for the unique needs of restoration contractors.
