A new report from the Colorado State University (CSU) Tropical Meteorology Project predicts that six major hurricanes — defined as categories 3, 4, and 5 — will develop in the remainder of the 2019 season. It expects 13 named storms overall. The report, based on 37 years of data, also forecast a 54% chance of a hurricane making landfall on the eastern U.S. coastline — with Florida's east coast given a 32% chance of a encountering a hurricane, and a 31% chance of a hurricane arriving from the the Gulf Coast. CSU said, "As is the case with all hurricane seasons, coastal residents are reminded that it only takes one hurricane making landfall to make it an active season for them. They should prepare the same for every season, regardless of how much activity is predicted."
