Virginia Beach Pays $500,000 to Clean Mass Shooting Site

Property restoration company Belfor received a $500,000 no-bid contract to clean up and decontaminate Building 2 in Virginia Beach's Municipal Center after a May 31 mass shooting. The company, which offers trauma and crime-scene remediation, was contracted to clean up the crime scene after the FBI and police finished collecting evidence. The crime occurred indoors, on multiple floors, and at close range. The company estimated that the job would take 20 straight days of nine-hour shifts, with work beginning June 13 and completed by July 1. City spokesperson Julie Hill said, "Judging by the reaction of people who have gone through the building and had been in it that day, the work was well done."
