The Methamphetamine Federation of New Zealand is expected to launch the week of Feb. 12 and establish a code of ethics for both decontaminators and companies that screen properties for the drug. The society hopes to lift the standard of methamphetamine decontamination and screening companies to provide greater clarity in the sector. The industry has come under fire from the government, with Housing Minister Phil Twyford accusing operators of helping create "moral panic" in the debate around meth contamination. A committee of experts last year helped create a standard for good practice among decontaminators and testers. The standard also set the threshold for contamination at 1.5 micrograms per 100cm2. The federation aims to promote better communication between sampling and decontamination companies, and bring them into alignment. It also hopes to launch a free email service, which would answer homeowners' questions within 24 hours.
