RIA Membership FAQ

1. Why is the RIA offering a new contractor membership dues model?

We have implemented a new membership dues model to accomplish three things:

  • Ensure we have the financial resources needed to sustain our Advocacy & Government Affairs (AGA) efforts for the long-term
Now, rather than relying on individual fundraising and asking restoration contractors to make separate investments in the AGA which is not sustainable, we have built an equitable dues structure that is based on each contractor member's annual revenue and will provide the financial support needed to sustain our advocacy work.

  • Make membership affordable for new members and contractors at all levels
Our association is only as strong as our members and we welcome all restoration companies of every size to join us! The prior dues structure was a one-size fits all approach where all members paid the same dues amount regardless of their size and revenue. This was cost prohibitive for many smaller restoration companies and was a barrier for some contractors to join the association. The new dues structure is based on each contractor member's annual revenue, making it much more affordable for all contractors to join the RIA and become part of the movement.

  • Make it easy to join and renew
We understand that our members are busy running their companies and helping those who have been impacted by disasters to put the pieces back together. They don't have time to worry about missing a renewal invoice or forgetting to pay their dues. Our new membership model gives contractors the option to autopay their dues on either an annual or monthly subscription basis. This will ensure their dues are automatically charged via credit card and/or ACH payment. Contractor members who still want to receive an annual invoice can select that option. Members who opt to pay their dues annually via autopay or invoice receive a 15% discount.

2. What is the First Time Member Discount?

company whose primary activity is directly providing services involving the restoration, cleaning, mitigation, reconstruction, remediation, abatement, environmental or similar services to the built environment or its contents that has never been a member of the RIA or whose contractor membership has been lapsed for three or more years is eligible for the discount. Eligible companies receive a discounted rate of $299 USD / $25 per month for the first year of membership with the RIA. After the first year when it is time to renew, they will have the option to select the appropriate membership dues level based on their company's annual revenue and select either annual or monthly autopay or traditional annual billing.

3. How will the new membership dues model work for existing contractor members?

Existing contractor members will be prompted via email 30 days prior to their membership expiration to login to their account and select the appropriate membership dues level based on their company's annual revenue. They will also have the option to select either annual or monthly autopay or traditional annual billing. All emails will be sent to the individual listed under the company's account.

4. How will the new calendar membership dues cycle impact contractor members?

The RIA is moving to a calendar renewal cycle, meaning all memberships will now be on a calendar year expiring December 31st. Membership dues for both new and existing members will automatically be prorated based on the month in which you join (new members) or your current membership anniversary date (existing members). Existing members who renew in October - November 2022 will pay a prorated amount for their 2022 membership dues. Then in December, those members will be prompted to renew and pay their dues for the upcoming 2023 membership year.
